Cardiac Services
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of premature death in the United States.
The Cardiac Services Team at Parkridge is committed to providing high quality patient care in a safe and friendly environment. Parkridge is an accredited Chest Pain Center with specifically designed processes and procedures to quickly diagnose and treat heart attacks. The Heart Center at Parkridge Medical Center offers a wide array of both diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. The hospital’s dedicated and experienced heart team has been performing open heart surgeries since 1988.
Parkridge’s state of the art Electrophysiology Lab uses 3D cardiac mapping equipment to precisely diagnose and treat the location in the heart responsible for triggering irregular heart-beats. The Cardiac Cath Lab is outfitted with modern imaging systems, along with other equipment used for diagnosing and treating blocked arteries and removing blood clots that lead to heart attacks. Heart caths can now be performed through the radial artery in the wrist, which reduces bleeding complications and eliminates the need for long periods of bed-rest following a procedure.
Parkridge is equipped with a high tech 64-slice CT scanner that is utilized for diagnosing cardiac disease. This amazing technology produces a three dimensional heart image that allows doctors to examine structures of the heart and blood vessels for signs of hardening, narrowing or blockage.
The combination of our sophisticated technology and our caring and compassionate staff creates an environment designed specifically for caring for the cardiac needs of our community.
Healthy Heart Cardiac Rehabilitation at Parkridge
Parkridge’s Healthy Heart Cardiac rehabilitation program is certified by the American Academy of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). It is designed for people with heart conditions, those who have recently experienced a cardiac event and those who have undergone heart surgery.
Recovery involves improving a patient’s overall quality of life. Patients of the Healthy Heart Cardiac Rehabilitation program have access to the resources of several multidisciplinary team members including a cardiologist, nursing staff, rehabilitation coordinator, exercise physiologist, and dietitian.
Our goal is to improve your health and reduce your risk of heart attack or other cardiac events. If you have just been diagnosed with a cardiovascular condition, the Parkridge cardiac rehabilitation team will teach you how to strengthen your heart with a supervised routine of regular exercise. You will learn more about how to minimize risk factors for cardiac events through changes in activities and habits. Emphasis is placed on controlling blood pressure, smoking cessation, cholesterol and other blood fats, diet and weight control and exercise.
The Parkridge Healthy Heart program offers nutritional guidance that includes taking a comprehensive diet history from each patient as well as a diet class facilitated by a Registered Dietitian helping you to begin making better dietary choices.
The Healthy Heart specialists realize that family support is vital to helping patients make positive lifestyle changes. Spouses and family members are encouraged to support healthy habits as part of the client's cardiac rehabilitation process.
